Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine Sullivan was born in and lived within Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother Pam is a former vocalist for the backup band of Philadelphia International Records. When she was five years old, of age, her dad landed in the role of curator of the city's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family relocated to the landmark historical building. In 2005, she graduated from the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts with a vocal music major. Sullivan performed as the contralto in the choir for children and later just a few years later she joined in the adults choir. Sullivan was not exposed to the world of secular music for the first time. "I started singing solos in church, and somebody was urging me to sign up for a gospel recording at the age of 11. but I wasn't quite ready for that," she says. "Then McDonald's offered a competition to kids from cities. Then I had the chance to sing Accept the Grace of God on Showtime Apollo. My fans were very accommodating." Stevie Wonder sang her part during his 13th birthday celebration. Sullivan made her first signing with Jive Records when she was fifteen. At the age of 15, she was signed to Jive Records. She made an entire album in Jive Records. However, it wasn't made available for release. Sullivan was later dismissed at the hands of the company. Missy Elliott was her producer for several songs on the album she released her debut. Among them "Backstabbers" from Timbaland, which Elliott composed, was a high point of their relationship.
