Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in performing arts (now called Maureen O'Hara), would have placed her, in America's eyes, into the category of child prodigy. As a person with Irish origins, who was surrounded she was by gifted parents, and her family did this naturally. Maureen was born in Ranelagh - a suburb of Dublin - Ireland on the 17th of August 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons was a gifted contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based business and owned a share of "The Shamrock Rovers" an eminent Irish soccer squad. Maureen FitzSimons placed second in a group of 6 FitzSimons. Peggy FitzSimons Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons James O'Hara rounded off the gorgeous family. Maureen did well in sports and enjoyed playing rough sports. This passion was combined with an equally natural talent to perform. As a result, she was awarded almost all of the Feis Awards for her dramatic and acting performances in her country of birth. She was accepted at the Abbey Theater by age 14, and she continued to pursue her dream of opera as well as classical theater and singing.
